SCOTTISH EXMOOR PONIES - and the new Scottish Exmoor Pony Riding Club (SEPRC) |
Great news for Exmoor pony owners in Scotland! Alison Downing has just launched the www.scottishexmoors.co.uk website. The idea is to provide a point of contact to Exmoor fanatics in Scotland. As distances between pony owners can be quite large, Alison is hoping that the website can help draw the community together. The site will also feature pages for the newly formed Scottish Exmoor Pony Riding Club (SEPRC). The riding club is hoping to affiliate to the British Riding Clubs , which will encourage the use of Exmoor ponies as ridden ponies across Scotland. Events already planned are a mounted games day (including non-mounted games for those with youngsters), dressage training, Connected Riding talk and demo and jumping and dressage leagues. Visit www.scottishexmoors.co.uk . |

The Exmoor Pony Musical RideTeam... |
WHEN TO SEE THE EXMOOR MUSICAL RIDE TEAM:
9 August 2006: The Exmoor Pony Musical Ride Team will be performing in the Exmoor Pony Showing Rings in the lunchtime break at Exford Show, Exmoor.
15-17 September 2006: Exmoor Ponies will feature in a Musical Ride Display at the TREC European Champtionships. The team of eight Exmoor ponies is being prepared to stage a unique Musical Ride during the 2006 TREC European Championships, due to be held on Exmoor in September.
The ponies, five of whom were bred on the moor, have been assembled by Exmoor breed enthusiast Yvonne Campbell, from Wells, and are being trained by Avon and Somerset Constabulary mounted officer John Green. Choreography has been arranged by Ann Whittle, who was in the winning Riding Club Quadrille team at Olympia in 2004. Work on the quadrille started in November and the team will give its first display at the Royal Bath and West show in May. The display at the TREC European Championships, however, is especially important because it will be seen by riders and supporters from the expected ten competing nations.
Exmoor ponies have been sold into Europe and are now being bred there, but the more exposure the breed gets the better it will be appreciated,” said Yvonne. Team members are:
Ann Whittle on Waltersgay Bryony 29/14
Kathryn Jefferd on Hawkwell Hercules
Charlotte Razay on Waltersgay Kingfisher
Francesca Gould on Knightoncombe Goldfinch
Yvonne Campbell on Knightoncombe Mother of Pearl 8/92
Rachel Fear on Knightoncombe Rosy Rustic 8/98
Tara Priestley on Haddon Magnus
Jo Gingell on Waltersgay Grasshopper
The Championships are funded by the Sustainable Development Fund administered by the Exmoor National Park Authority and Defra’s Rural Enterprise Scheme. A team of local organisers is led by Mrs Margaret Barron from Wootton Courtney, who said: “We are particularly pleased that the Exmoor Pony will feature in our display. We can hardly invite so many horse enthusiasts to Exmoor and not show off our native breed.”

The Exmoor Pony Musical RideTeam at Royal Bath & West - 31 May - 3 June 2006
The Musical Ride team performed twice daily at Bath & West, at lunchtime and in the early evening. There are several moor bred Exmoor ponies, or ponies that were not handled until weaning/inspection, in the team - who have now wholeheartedly adapted to performance training and are demonstrating what superb ridden ponies Exmoors make. |
