EQUINETOURISM - WORLDWIDE - Horse Riding in Luxembourg

Horse Riding in Luxembourg
With more Michelin stars per head of population (or per square mile) than any other nation on Earth, this small country can offer pleasures of the palate second to none!
Discover Luxembourg...
Wedged between Germany, Belgium and France, the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg is often overlooked when deciding on a holiday. Small wonder - with its 999 square miles surface (that's 52 miles North-South and 32 miles East-West maximum extension) it's about the size of an English county and you might thus be forgiven for adopting the "blink and miss it" attitude of many a holidaymaker on their way further afield.

Consider, however, the advantages of a holiday in Luxembourg, and you will be richly rewarded: A third of the country is made up ofnatural forests, clinging to the steep hill-sides of the Ardennes, ( www.ardennes-lux.lu) and criss-crossed by streams and riversthat are pure joy to discover -especially on horseback- on guided tours organised throughout the year, such as the Tour of Luxembourg, the Upper-Sûre Lake Tour and the Tour of the Our Valley. ( www.agendalux.lu, or www.hippoline.lu).

With more Michelin stars per head of population (or per square mile) than any other nation on Earth, this small country can offer pleasures of the palate second to none! From the vineyards along the Moselle marking the border with Germany, Luxembourg produces dry white wines and sparkling Crémants, winners of countless medals. The eponymous capital, Luxembourg City - as befits a small country - is a very compact town and is easily manageable on foot in spite of its massive ramparts and striking ravines that were so conducive to its growth as a fortress town some 1000 years ago.

Horse Riding
Several days rides are organised every year, such as the Tour of Luxembourg, the Upper-Sure Lake Tour and the Tour of the Our Valley. Furthermore, the riding section of the European Association for the Eifel and the Ardennes regularly organises rides.

International and national riding events take place in different villages, such as Beaufort and Mondorf-les-Bains. You can find out information and dates from the Agendalux.lu, published by the National Tourist Office. Tel 00 353 42 82 82 20 or visit www.agendalux.lu.

Four New Horse Trails for Luxembourg!
The "Haute Sûre" Nature Park has created 4 new horsetrails and are now offering a map for sale that covers all 4 routes and lists accommodation for both horses and riders, as well as tourist attractions along the way. (However, the maps are only currently available in French and German, at a cost of 10 €.)

The complete trail covers 120 km and leads through the boroughs of Winseler, Eschweiler, Goesdorf, Boulaide, Rambrouch, Wahl, Esch-sur-Sûre and Heiderscheid, all located in the North of Luxembourg, in typical Ardennes countryside. The routes are clearly
signposted with white horse-head signs..

Hunting
Marked by its large forested area, Luxembourg is distinguished above all by its relatively high population of game animals. Especially in the Ardennes, with its common woodlands of oak and other fine timbers such as beech, oak and hornbeam, but also in the Gutland and by the river Moselle, you can find roe deer, wild boar and red deer.

Permits: Because a system of hunting estates applies in Luxembourg, an invitation from a Luxembourg hunting estate tenant is an absolute prerequisite. The latter can then obtain a 1 or 5-day hunting permit from the District Commissioner in Luxembourg, Diekirch or Grevenmacher. Permits will only be issued to the same person three times a year and ever more than ten times in all.
