Pembrokeshire offers plenty of opportunity for horse riding, taking you across a variety of landscapes and providing a great way of exploring the area. Whether you want to ride across open moorland, along wooded bridleways or down quiet country lanes, there's something for everyone, all offered by the excellent selection of riding establishments operating in the county. |
This is Britain's only truly coastal national park. It's a spectacular landscape of rugged cliffs, sandy beaches, wooded estuaries and wild inland hills, and a place of sanctuary for wildlife.
People belong here, too. They have shaped the landscape over the centuries, leaving their mark in tombs and castles, crosses and cottages, quarries and quays.
Today this is a living, working landscape where people and nature co-exist. The National Park Authority looks after it, helps the public to enjoy and understand it, and works with local communities towards a sustainable future.
Almost anywhere you ride in Pembrokeshire, you'll be travelling through an area of great historical interest. Some of the major bridleways are old drovers' roads, where sheep and cattle would have been driven to markets in Shrewsbury, Bristol or even London.
There are many other things to see from horseback from small hamlets, Iron Age forts and standing stones; to castles, ancient woodlands and quiet streams.
Preparing for Your Riding Holiday
It's always a good idea to tell the stables about your requirements when you book. Be honest about your ability, and give details about the heights and weights of adults and children, so that the stable can select a horse of the correct size and temperament for you.
Arrive early to allow for boot and hat fitting, and make sure that you're wearing the right clothes. Trousers or jeans are a must, as riding in shorts or a dress can cause sore legs, and could spoil the rest of your holiday.
Bring Your Own Horse Too
No matter what part of Pembrokeshire you wish to see, whether the Preseli’s or Coastline, you will have the chance to view so much more from this mobile vantage point away from the hustle and bustle of town life. You may also want to consider bringing your own horse to experience Pembrokeshire together.
