PIP UNWIN - horse trainer, healer and communicator
Philippa Unwin teaches all aspects of horsemanship - from ground handling, tack fitting, confident riding at every level, managing injuries and disease, nutrition and pasture management. Pip's teaching works in harmony with both horse and rider on a deep spiritual level. The training is available either on an individual basis or in a group environment, where often the sharing of other's experiences can help identify and resolve individual issues in the spirit of partnership and pleasure.

Pip Unwin - Natural Horsemanship Trainer

Pip's teaching allows both horse and handler to understand each other in order to open the lines of communication and to recognise how the human action can inadvertently influence the response of the horse. There is no blame or punishment just reward and a sense of achievement for both.

Pip Unwin has been involved with horses for over thirty years, and has been fascinated by them for as long as she can remember . It is this fascination that has led her into a career with horses. For the last fifteen years she has competed successfully in endurance riding. Pip was National Novice Champion in 1998 with her current horse, and Wessex Champion for two years consecutively. She has been involved with many different aspects of training horses including: Backing, Schooling, Training in Polo, Team Chasing, Point to Point and National Hunt Yards.

Pip's Approach to Horsemanship
Pip's Natural method of horse training, comes from her desire to enable owners and riders to "become one". She works on a spiritual level to enable both horse and handler to understand each other. She believes that this all-encompassing teaching method will enhance life with your horses and beyond.
"Many of my Clients come to me with "problem" horses, but few recognise that the owner may be part of the problem. My teaching aims to allow both Horse and Handler to understand each other and to open the "lines of communication" between both. The rewards of this are enormous."

Pip's Teaching Methods allow:
The Horse to be a HORSE
FEAR to be dissolved in both Horse and Rider
The Handler to feel relaxed and empowered to deal with any situation
The Horse to be ridden by transmission of thoughts
Self Awareness
TRUST to develop & CONFIDENCE to grow
Clear Communication
Horse & Rider to achieve ONENESS
Horse & Rider to realise their TRUE SPIRIT

Less Is More
One of the key elements of this training is self awareness. Once you begin to recognise where you are holding tension and fear, you will be able to deal with it, therefore becoming more relaxed. You'll then be more comfortable around your horses and they around you. You'll find that you will save both energy and money because you're no longer looking outside yourself for "quick-fix" solutions as there will be a greater level of harmony in your relationship with your horses.

Pip's Ethos
Pip has always felt drawn to horses. Over the years she has experienced a great deal of pleasure and fun with her horses, and they continue to teach her.
"A horse shows such willingness and desire to do their best for us, their kindness, generosity of
spirit and gentleness is a joy to share. I want to help people and horses to talk to each other, in order that they become partners - coming together as a whole with understanding and sharing the joy of unity. For many riders and horse owners it is a daily battle without this understanding. It is time that we give back to the horse in order that he can continue to give to us willingly. If we take the time to learn his
language, the benefits to us are immense. But before we can go down that path, we have to be open and honest with ourselves and ask for help. This is the hard part and if you can get beyond that, the rest is easy!"

Trust, Empowerment & Liberation
One of the greatest gifts that training with Pip can give you is a deep trust in your own intuition. You will learn how to work out what your horse is communicating to you, and why, and how you can deal with it - and it will be you who finds the answer! This empowers horse owners in a wholly new and liberating way. Following a consultation, Pip will give ongoing support over the phone or online.

With flowing tail and flying mane,
Wide nostrils, never stretched by pain,
Mouths bloodless to the bit or rein,
And feet that iron never shod,
And flanks unscar'd by spur or rod
A thousand horses - the wild - the free -
Like waves that follow o'er the sea,
Came thickly thundering on

Pip Unwin - Training Clinics & Courses

Introduction Days
One Day events where Pip demonstrates Natural Horsemanship Techniques with her own horses. Pip occasionally works with clients’ horses on Introduction Days, but avoids on a 'one-off basis' with stressed horses unless the handler is prepared to work with her in the longer term as it is unfair to the horse. Pip doesn't offer a quick fix for ‘problem horses’ - she offers a new way for humans to interact with horses which minimises or eliminates ‘problems’. There will be an Introduction to the principles, role playing activities and exercises. An Introduction Day is a low cost opportunity to check out the principles of Natural Horsemanship to see if they could work for you and your horse before you bring
your horse into the picture.

Natural Horsemanship Training Days
You can bring your own horse, or work with the horses at the yard. You will spend the day working with and around Pip and getting a feel for Natural Horsemanship approaches. Hack out with Pip in glorious countryside – through streams and woods, through quiet country lanes and up and down hills. Perfect endurance training with a former national champion. Watch and learn, ride and absorb the atmosphere of the yard.

Back-Back Riding Days
Many people enjoyed riding as a child or youngster but have been put off by one thing or another, or have simply lost their nerve. Pip has the horses to inspire you enjoy riding again. In a relaxed, friendly and informal atmosphere, you can rekindle that old joy and expand your horizons again.

Connecting with Horses
Horses are such awesome, intelligent, gentle and intuitive creatures that inspire and transform the most damaged of people. Connecting with Horses is a special day for people with a need for some deep spiritual healing (and that includes us all). Rather like swimming with dolphins, working with our horses is a way of getting in touch with a deeper, more soulful way of being. You will feel deep empathy and trust by being with the horses. You will feel joy and fulfillment when they work with you and you will
see the world differently after seeing it from the perspective of a horse.

Workshops
One, two or three day intensive events where Pip works with horses and students together to share experiences, observations and results. Pip works with horses on the ground and under saddle, and looks at tack fitting, feeding, pasture management - and explores our reactions and emotions around our horses. An uplifting, rewarding and fun experience for all.

Individual Tuition
One on one sessions with Pip to discuss and work with your own horses at home. Cost includes email and telephone support after tuition.

Groups, Saddle Clubs and Riding Clubs
Pip works with music with the horses and this makes for an entertaining, relaxing and joyful evening. An opportunity to meet the horses and gain an introduction to Pip's horsemanship methods
.
Pub Evenings
Informal evenings where Pip and the group discuss Natural Horsemanship principles, methods and techniques and develops ideas you can take away and use at home.

Kids Horsemanship Days
For children from 5-16 years - a fun day of working with ponies and horses and each other to learn about responsibility, leadership and true horsemanship.

Kid's Natural Horsemanship Course
This is a 5 day course where children - from 7yrs up to 16yrs, of any abillity - whether complete beginner or with riding experience - can learn about Natural Horsemanship. They will be guided through a succession of exercises which will be both with and without the ponies, and both on the ground and ridden. They will learn what it is like from the horses point of view as well as from the handler's point of view. They will also learn a non vocal communication, team building skills, self disicpline, self control, respect, self worth, build self confidence - and they will discover a belief in themselves. You can bring and work with your own pony or you will be paired with one of Pips.

Relationship Workshop
Learn about your relationship with your horse/s - and learn how you could have a better one. This will be a non-riding workshop, comprising groundwork. .Ask yourself:
Who leads who out/in to the field?
Is your horse always easily to catch? (and not because there is food on offer!)
Does your horse let you pick his/her feet out?
Does your horse stand still when you tack him/ her up?
Does your horse stand still when you get on/off?
Does your horse tie up well?
Can you take your horse anywhere and you know that he/she will be more than happy to just be with you and do as you ask?
If yes to all these questions, then well done! If no to any off them, then come along and find out why - and turn the no's into yes's.

Reiki & Healing

Reiki is a natural, hands-on healing technique, which is not attached to any religious denomination. Reiki provides the same benefits to Horses, indeed most animals, which it does to humans.

Reiki does not interfere with or replace conventional medicine, but it can prove a powerful complement to it. It is a spiritual healing technique that helps reduce stress and pain and so accelerate the natural healing process.

Learning Reiki is a very worthwhile endeavour. Not only can you use this safe healing system to treat yourself, family, friends and children, but you can then use the technique on animals and plants too. Pip is available to treat people as well as animals. Horses, by their very nature, are highly spirited and emotional animals and they can benefit enormously from the ancient Japanese "universal life energy" transference, healing technique. The sessions can take place in the comfort of your own home. If you feel you would like to benefit from Reiki Treatment, then please contact Pip to make arrangements.

Reiki for Horses, is a useful complement in treating:

Sweet Itch , Depression , Aggression , Traumas , Lethargy , Agoraphobia , Laminitis , Behavioural problems , Stiff Joints, and many more ailments…

Healing Horses
Pip learned to practice Reiki initially because she discovered that she was able to communicate with horses just by running her hands over them. She studied the ancient art of Reiki so she could understand fully what the horses were trying to tell her. Pip considers it part of her goal to channel messages to/from the horse whenever possible. Pip practices Reiki in conformance with the Veterinary Surgery Act of 1966 and the Reiki Association Code of Ethics.
