Training, Competition, Livery and Friesian Horses for Sale |
Team Edison Friesians is an established business specialising in Friesian horses. Jackie Crockett and Katie Milne BHSI/SM , import and train Friesian horses and run a bespoke service to find your ideal Friesian horse. A bespoke livery service is also available with on site lessons, advice and workshops. There are a selection of Friesian - and other horses - for sale for competition or pleasure. |
Team Edison Friesians... |
Team Edison Friesians comprises of Jackie Crockett & Katie Milne, who are based in the South West of England. Jackie purchased her first Friesian in May 2002 after attending a Parelli Natural Horsemanship demo in 2001. She thought they were absolutely beautiful, & unlike anything she had seen before with their charisma and undeniable presence. Because the search to find a Friesian in the UK proved to be so difficult, Jackie and Katie decided to start Team Edison Friesians.
The name comes from Jackie’s brother's Company, Edison Ford Independent Financial Advisers (www.edisonfordifa.co.uk) which sponsors them under the ‘Team Edison’ Logo. Team Edison Friesians endorses the natural horsemanship approach and apply this technique to all the horses.
Katie Milne is a registered instructor with the SM BHSII qualification, and she has worked in all aspects of the horse industry, from racing, breeding, eventing, show jumping, hunting & now dressage. She is currently Chief Instructor for Banwell Pony Club. |
The Friesian Horse |
The Friesian horse descends from the Equus robustus. During the 16th & 17th centuries, but probably also earlier, Arabian blood was introduced, especially through Andalusian horses from Spain. This has given them the high knee-action, the small head and the craning neck. The Friesian horse has been kept free from the influence of the English Thoroughbred & is noted for its kind temperament and is considered a warm blood. During the last 2 centuries it has been bred pure.
Through the centuries the Friesian government has made many regulations in order to safeguard good breeding. Now all recognized friesians have to be registered with The Friesch Paarden Stamboek (the friesian studbook). Since 1986 it became compulsory for FPS registered horses to have a number tattooed on their tongues as foals. Foals registered since 1997 have been given a unique microchip instead of a tongue tattoo. The tongue tattoo or microchip should always match the data recorded on the FPS registration papers.
Friesian horses are always black. White markings are not allowed.
They have a long, thick, flowing mane & tail and pronounced fetlock hair. Under no circumstances is it permissible to dock the tail of a Friesian and, in fact, trimming of any hair from mane, tail or legs is frowned upon.
The Friesian Horse holds its head high & proud with an arching neck, the body strong & deep with a sloping shoulder. The rear quarters are sloping with a somewhat low set tail. Registered Friesian stallions must be 160cm by age 4 & mares 150cm, although anywhere between 158cm & 165cm is considered ideal. Currently there are less than 300 known registered Friesians in the UK.

Team Edison Friesian's core principles and values |
Our philosophy is to treat all horses & humans with the respect they deserve. We like to be honest both with our clients & horses & would never knowingly sell or pass on a horse which had a problem which made it dangerous/unsuitable to ride. We would ideally like our horses to have a home with you for life & to be your greatest friend, which is why we take the time & care to suit you to the horse. If we feel a horse is not suitable for you, however much you may want it, we will not sell it to you.
|
Finding a Friesian Horse - We will not sell you a horse but prefer you to buy it from us |
If you are seriously interested in purchasing a horse from us we ask that in the first instance you come & see our own horses. We will then discuss your requirements, find out your riding capabilities, what you would like to do with your horse, whether purely hacking, showing or dressage from Prelim to Grand Prix. We will then find a number of horses which we feel will be suitable for you.
When you have decided on a particular horse, as a special benefit we grant a 2 week return period to protect you in the unlikely event that the chemistry between the two of you is lacking. To protect you against any disappointments, & ourselves against possible poor judgment, we require that the horse has a 5 star vetting, at your expense. This should happen immediately before the sale transaction. You can select not to do this only if it is agreed upon in advance. Using our excellent trainers at our premises, we offer a complimentary problem solving service for any client who has purchased through us. We believe this is a unique service and rely on the good ethics of clients not to abuse it.
Please visit our website or contact us to discuss your requirements.
