About Flax Farm Linseed (Flaxseed) Oil products for Horses and Dogs

The Benefits of Feeding Linseed Oil
For centuries horse owners have fed linseed (flaxseed) oil for a glossier, easier to groom coat, stronger hooves, improved condition, fitness and performance - modern scientists and vets have proven its efficacy is due to Omega-3. Dog owners have also noticed that dogs fed linseed oil have healthier coats with a championship sheen as well as helping alleviate arthritis and improving temperaments. Linseed Oil balances fats in the diet so that other nutrients and supplements are metabolized more effectively.

Top Quality Cold-Pressed Linseed Oil
If you give your animals fresh quality feed you will want the best linseed oil for them. Flax Farm Cold-pressed Linseed Oil is simply the best; pure unrefined cold-pressed oil that is gently squeezed from home-grown linseeds. It is as close to nature as possible and contains all the naturally occurring micro-nutrients and antioxidants that aid absorption and health. Careful production, highest standards of quality control means that the omega-3 is in pristine condition.

Omega-3 is essential for health of horses and dogs (and birds). Animals can't make omega-3 in their bodies, so like minerals and protien, they have to get it from food. Approximately 25% of every cell membrane is made from omega-3. It is imortant that enough is consumed to balance other fats in food; only then can animals make the healthy cell membranes that ensure strong bones, muscles and ligaments and healthy immune system.

Cold-pressed Linseed Oil provides the right kind of omega-3 for your animals. Omega-3 for feeding animals should always be fresh and pure to ensure quality. Linseed Oil Omega-3 is even more important in animals diets when cereals, soya or oils are fed. Omega-3 will help your animals cope with the physical and mental stresses of training and competition. Horses are strictly vegetarian, so linseed oil is
far more natural than cod-liver for horses - it is also completely free of the pollutants associated with fish-based supplements. The ALA in linseed oil is the essential omega-3 fatty acid for dogs and Flax Farm Cold-pressed linseed oil is an exceptionally healthy way to feed it.

Benefits include:
- Useful for horses and ponies prone to laminitis and difficult to keep shoes on.
- Boosted immune system and good for respiratory system
- Healthy cell and strong bone development during pregnancy and for youngsters
- Aids recovery after competition and training
- Healthier, shinier coats and easier to groom.
- Improves dry coats
- Linseed Oil can help relieve the symptoms of sweet itch
- Calms temperament, aids concentration

About Flax Farm
Flax Farm, in the heart of West Sussex, was established in 2004 to grow linseed and to produce a range of delicious and healthful foods from it. We have put this website together to help you and your family get the best from linseed for its great flavour and amazing health benefits. You can buy our linseed produce either direct online, at farmers' markets or in an increasing number of shops. If you would like to talk to us about any aspect of using linseed please feel free to call 01403 268844.

Some of the things that we think are so good about Flax Farm Linseed:
Good flavour - We grow varieties of linseed (aka Flax) for high omega-3 content and the best flavour. We then handle the linseed with great care to preserve that flavour. Flavour is always our first aim as that is the best measure of the quality of linseed – if it tastes sweet, mild and delicate it is fresh and good.
Good for you - The wonderful flavour of our cold-pressed linseed oil and freshly ground linseed meal products means our linseed is through and through good for you. And because it tastes nice you and your family will enjoy so it will be easy to get the family eating something that will do them good.
Good for the community - Our linseed is grown here on the farm in Sussex. We are proud to be part of the traditional British farming community where we support other local suppliers and trades whenever possible. The linseed left over from cold-pressing the oil is the highest quality animal feed and goes to feed a herd of local cows.
Good for the Environment - Food grown in the Sussex countryside supports the traditional farming methods in small fields which means lots of hedgerows, copses, ditches and headlands that provide the rich habitat needed for the rich biodiversity of local wildlife.
Buying locally grown linseed means you have saved the food miles of importing it and obviously it means it’s fresher too. Fewer food miles means lower carbon emissions, fewer pesticides means more wildlife, minimal packaging means less exploitation of the environment and less landfill.
Good for the oceans - Linseed is a wonderful natural fresh source of omega-3. Human beings do very well on plant omega-3; plants are the main source of omega-3 for most of the World’s population. By getting our omega-3 from linseed we are supporting the oceans. The currently enormous omega-3 industry that hoovers up fish and krill for omega-3 fish oil supplements robs the oceans of the food for larger fish, dolphins, whales , puffins and other seabirds. When you chose linseed oil for omega-3 you are supporting the wildlife of the oceans. And your health can benefit too, by choosing plant based omega-3 as it is naturally purer. The ocean’s fish are contaminated with industrial wastes, like mercury and dioxins which build up in our systems and damage our immune systems. Omega-3 from Flax Farm’s cold-pressed linseed comes from the fields so you can be sure of its purity and healthfulness.
Good at helping you - We found that lots of people don't understand the best way to get linseed to improve their health or how to enjoy it as a great tasting ingredient. We have done a lot of studying to understand the science of linseed so we can help guide you to get the form of linseed to best suit your needs. And so that you can enjoy it we have worked hard at developing recipes to share so linseed can be a great experience for ordinary families and those with needing special diets.
