The BHS South West Region

South West Regional Development Officer
The South West County Committees are supported by the Regional Development Officer, who is a BHS employee. Your Regional Development Officer has two main objectives. The first is to recruit new BHS members and look after the interests of existing members in the area. The second objective is to highlight and implement the main aims of the BHS in Welfare, Access, Safety and Training.

The BHS County Committees
Each County has a BHS Committee. Each committee consists of elected and appointed volunteers. These volunteers are here to help you but please remember, they give their time and expertise on a voluntary basis and receive no monetary remuneration from the BHS for the work they do.

The British Horse Society South West Region

If you're passionate about horses The British Horse Society has so much to offer you. The BHS can offer guidance on everything you need to know about riding, caring for the horse and working in the industry. The BHS is also the home of British Riding Clubs, the largest movement for amateur riders in the UK.

No one works harder or with more success to improve standards of horse welfare and safety, increase and protect bridleway access, educate riders and horse owners, provide great membership benefits and inspirational riding experiences. The BHS is YOUR charity - join us.

Riding
Be inspired with the BHS – The Charity for all horses and riders. There is no finer pastime than riding. Whether you are looking to choose the very best establishment or instructor, looking for somewhere new to ride out and enjoy the company of your horse, learn how to ride safely or to join in and have fun together at Competitions and British Riding Clubs and BHS Competitions - you’ll find that the BHS is the first port of call for anyone starting to ride. By choosing a BHS approved establishment you know you’ve chosen the best and you’ll be in safe hands. Help us continue our work standing up for riders by joining as a member, volunteering or supporting our campaigning to improve access.

Find a Riding Holiday Centre

Many establishments approved by the BHS cater for those wishing to spend their holidays riding or learning more about horses. Some centres offer courses which give riders the chance for more rapid learning, with the opportunity to ride more than one day under the skilful eye of a qualified instructor. Others offer hacking, riding or trekking in beautiful countryside or along the coastline. Whatever your dream riding holiday there will be a BHS Approved Centre somewhere to make it happen.

Find A BHS Instructor
The BHS has a register of appropriately qualified instructors to match the training and teaching needs of all riders, whatever the requirement, from first lessons through to competition training. Our registered instructors have guaranteed qualifications, First-aid and child Protection certification, up-to-date professional training records and follow a Code of Conduct incorporating a Complaints procedure. Many of our registered instructors also have their instructors insurance through the BHS but our advice to riders is to always check that your instructor has the necessary insurance cover.
