For adults...
There are many options for adults wanting to ride. Whether you want to compete, improve your riding, join a group of others or just want to 'have a go', our instructors and horses can help.
Stable management courses are also run for those wishing to learn more about horse care.
For groups...
Schools, clubs and businesses etc. are all welcome at discounted rates. Please contact us for details. |
For children - Pippin Equestrian is an Approved Pony Club Centre...
We run a variety of activities for children, while maintaining an emphasis on fun and safety. We are an Approved Pony Club Centre and run regular rallies and competitions for club members.
Our weekend 'Pony Pals' Club is open to all young people enabling them to learn about the daily care of their pony. During the school holidays we hold 'Own a Pony' days or weeks incorporating formal riding tuition, hacking, pony care and competitions.
Children learning to ride start with 1/2 hour private lessons or lead rein group lessons until they are able to keep their ponies trotting and steer at the same time! Then they join a regular group of the same ability and age. We endeavour to ensure the same instructor is available as often as possible to allow for continuity and a structured learning programme. We also run fun sessions for special occasions such as 'Birthdays'. |

What it means to join The Pony Club at Pippin Equestrian...
At a Pony Club Centre, children who do not own their own pony are able to become part of the National Pony Club. Becoming a member of the Pony Club gives children many opportunities:
The Pony Club offers its members an Achievement Badge Scheme which covers a wide range of pony and countryside knowledge. Members can sew the badges onto their fleeces and sweatshirts. Progressive awards (Bronze, Silver and Gold) which include a riding section are taken while members are preparing Pony Club Efficiency Tests, which are recognised worldwide.
It is our intention, at Pippin Equestrian, to run dismounted rallies on a regular basis in order for children to learn all aspects of horse and pony care and work towards earning the interest badges. These will be mounted sessions where members will be able to take the riding sections of the Progressive Awards. During the summer holidays, we shall be running a week long 'camp' for our members.
As a Pony Club Centre, Pippin Equestrian is also able to run a League competition sponsored by 'Pedigree'. The competition will be a combination of show jumping and gymkhana games and therefore open to all ages and abilities. A League chart of members participating will be kept during the 6 months that the competition runs.
Ultimately, it is our hope to send a team (or two or three!) of Pippin Riders to one of the national competitions. Members of the Pony Club are also covered by Third Party Public Liability Insurance. Membership costs £20. Please contact us to ask for an application form. |
Livery at Pippin Equestrian |
Full, part and DIY livery is available as well as a mix and match package.
The livery facilities are purpose built and separated from the main riding school. Large airy stables are located in an indoor block with its own courtyard and alarmed tack room. (See below for table of full equestrian facilities). Livery owners enjoy free use of the excellent equestrian facilities and discounts on tuition and competitions etc.

How to get to Pippin Equestrian:
Pippin Equestrian is only three miles from Gillingham (and the main Exeter to London rail-link - London is just 90 minutes away by train). By road, it is six miles from the A303 and five miles from Shaftesbury.
Coming from the Wincanton Road, turn into Broad Robin Road and follow the road to the railway bridge. Under the bridge and turn immediately left. Continue for half a mile and after the first sharp right-hand bend, turn left before the Mill bridge. Pippin Equestrian is at the end of the lane.
From Shaftesbury, take the Sherborne road to East Stour and turn right towards Gillingham onto the B3092. At the first sharp right hand bend in Madjeston, turn left to Eccliffe, over the Mill bridge then turn right into the lane. Pippin Equestrian is at the end of the lane. |
