CANINE TOURISM EDITORIAL- Walking The Coleridge Way
'The Coleridge Way' was opened in April 2005 and is a walk that directly links the Quantock Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with Exmoor National Park. It offers walkers the opportunity to experience varied and breathtaking scenery and discover the area's fascinating history, heritage and culture en route.

The village of Nether Stowey (in the Quantocks) is the starting point of the 36 mile route and was home to the poet Samuel Coleridge at the end of the eighteenth century. He wrote many of his famous works, including 'This Lime-Tree Bower My Prison' whilst living in the Quantocks - and Coleridge Cottage is now open to the public (contact The National Trust on 01278 732662 for opening times).

On leaving Nether Stowey, The Coleridge Way passes through beautiful swathes of beech woodland, heathland and open Moor, as well as skirting Dunkery Beacon, the highest point on Exmoor. The scenery along the footpath is stunning and there are magnificent views of the Bristol Channel and the Welsh Coastline (as well as the Brecon Beacons on a clear day).

Native wildlife, such as buzzards, Exmoor ponies and red deer can also be seen on a regular basis. The Coleridge Way meanders through pretty Somerset villages, including Bicknoller, Monksilver, Roadwater and Luxborough, which have public houses and various places to stay. The quaint, small town of Porlock on the Exmoor coastline is the end point of the walk.
