The Aims of the TDBA |
The Taunton Deane Bridleways Association aims to ensure that all bridleways remain open and rideable, to re-open those which have fallen out of use and to promote the opening of new bridleways.
With increasing size and volume of traffic in our country lanes, safe off-road riding routes are becoming more and more important. Isn't it worth fighting for them. As a BHS affiliated Association, the more members we have the greater our influence will be. This is particularly important now that the County is considering the Rights of Way Improvement Plan on which changes to the Definitive Map of Rights of Way will be based. Consultations with parishes have already begun to draw up a wish list of new routes, possible upgrades and improvements to existing routes but it is up to riders to use their local knowledge to contribute to this consultation process.
See below for the committee members responsible for the different areas.

Taunton Deane Bridleways Association Pleasure Ride on 24 April
Forty horse riders enjoyed exploring the bridleways and droves around North Curry recently on a Pleasure Ride organised by the Taunton Deane Bridleways Association. As many riders are forced to ride on roads and lanes, particularly during the winter, this was a welcome opportunity to ride safely away from large vehicles, and to enjoy the quietness and beauty of the Somerset Moors. The money raised will be used by the Association to improve the bridleway network in the area by providing rider-friendly gate latches.
The Association is also working towards creating new routes under the Rights of Way Improvement Plan which is currently underway in the County. During the post-war years when there were few leisure riders, many traditional bridleways were omitted from the Definitive Map of Rights of Way. It is hoped that the Improvement Plan will put this right, and that the provision of more off-road routes will improve matters not only for riders but also for other road-users.
The Association would like to thank the North Curry farmers for their help and the local motorists for their courtesy to visiting horses and riders.
Anyone interested in joining the Taunton Deane Bridleways Association should contact Delise Rowlands on 01823 490970. |
