Ranch Vacations and Horse Riding Holidays at Big Bar Guest Ranch

Big Bar Ranch is situated in the heart of cattle country, where time has no meaning and the spirit of old-fashioned hospitality, good-old home cooking and a relaxed western atmosphere lives on.

The perfect way to explore and experience the spectacular scenery is of course, from horseback and, riding from the ranch house, you follow the natural trails of tranquil splendor from one magnificent vista to another.

Standing beside your horse, in the peaceful silence atop the Knoll, the awe that is felt cannot be described as you enjoy the breathtaking 360-degree view and surrender to the vastness of this great wilderness. There is no doubt that Big Bar Guest Ranch is definitely "One of the Most Scenic Rides in Canada!"

As you explore this immense untamed valley, the only distractions are the yip-yip of a coyote, the hoot of an owl, deer bounding over an open meadow, a bear watching over her playful cubs or the whinny of a horse. Stands of Aspens and Jack Pines lead the way through gentle meadows to extraordinary canyons and mountain ranges that rise above the mighty Fraser River.

Follow natural trails through the forest or enjoy the wide-open spaces, over rangelands and mountain meadows of the Cariboo Cattle Country. Feel the freedom that can only be experienced on horseback. Big Bar Guest Ranch has horses suited for all riding abilities.

The horses are "user friendly"! Whether you have ridden all your life and just want to experience new country or have never been on a horse before and want to "give it a go," Big Bar Ranch has the horse for you. Just like people, the horses have their own distinct personalities and the experienced wranglers will match you with a horse that will suite you perfectly.

The horses are the heart and soul of the Ranch and are well fed, healthy and constantly groomed. Come and see the nightly event as the horses are turned out to open graze, play and socialise, before returning to the barn in the morning.

They live on the ranch year round, and are ridden throughout the winter. Therefore, they have constant human contact and nurturing which is so vital to their well-being and continued well-mannered dispositions.

Cattle Drives, Pack Trips and Round Ups
Cattle Drives
Become a real cowboy or cowgirl and try a cattle drive. The horses really love it and you'll love it too - chasing cows and calves that have their own ideas of when to stop, and where to go. You’ll spend an exciting day rounding up and herding cattle alongside a professional cowboy.

Pack Trips
You will be taken through some of the most breathtaking scenery from majestic mountains and meadows to desert. Here you will encounter wildlife, Indian carvings and interesting land formations as you go. Camp out under the stars while enjoying late night campfires, tall tales and warm western camaraderie. The memory of this experience will stay with you forever.

"Pack-trippers" are encouraged to arrive by early afternoon on Sunday, so that the experienced guide can introduce you to your horse and take you out for a familiarisation ride. A pack-trip includes all meals, accommodations, horses, tack, tents, cabins, supplies, guide and cook. All you bring is your sleeping bag, clothing and personal supplies.
