| Churchtown Morgan Stud Farm |
|
Churchtown Morgan Stud Farm, managed and run by John and Rosie Daniels, specialises in Morgan horses and was established in 2004. The stud farm currently has three stallions and a number of mares. We also usually have some stock for sale.
The Morgan Horse
The Morgan is one of the first horse breeds developed in the United States. All Morgans trace back to a single foundation sire, a stallion named Figure (born in West Springfield, Massachusetts in 1789), later named Justin Morgan after his best-known owner. It was soon realised that direct descendants of Figure, who was referred to as the "Morgan" horse, all seemed to inherit his sturdy compact build, heart and stamina, and versatility. Morgan horses quickly became highly sought after individuals because of their inherent ability to do anything and do it well.
The Morgan is compact and refined in build, with strong limbs, an expressive face, large eyes, well-defined withers, laid back shoulders and a well arched neck. The breed ranges from 14.1-15.2 hands with some individuals over and under. Morgans come in a variety of colours although they are most commonly bay, black and chestnut.
