Equine Courses and Qualifications at Kingston Maurward College

The Equine courses at Kingston Maurward College fall under four broad headings:

Part-time Courses
Full-time further education
Full-time higher education
Apprenticeships

Part Time Courses
These courses vary in length from three hours to 180 hours.. Most of these courses are held at Kingston Maurward but a number take place at various sites around Dorset.

Usually there is a tuition fee to pay, the amount varies with the length and complexity of the course. These courses are ideal for those wishing to learn a new skill, extend their knowledge and understanding or update their qualifications.

Full-time Further Education Courses
Full-time means between 16 and 24 hours per week of taught time and further education means any course at levels up to and including BTEC National Certificate and Diploma.

Most of these courses contain an element of industrial experience, either a day a week or a block at some point during the course. Courses are either one or two years in length. Students may be able to live in and experience the community life of the college. The college can also offer a supportive environment for those not yet ready to go into employment.

Full-time Higher Education Courses
These are Higher National Certificate and Diploma courses and Foundation Degrees. Students may enter straight from school having studied A-levels or come via a further education course. Tuition fees are payable, the amount varying with the length and complexity of the course. These courses are offered in conjunction with Bournemouth University. Successful students can “top-up” their qualifications to achieve an Honours degree.

Work Based Learning Apprenticeships
These work based programmes offer practical experience, training and qualifications. All are designed to meet individual requirements and abilities. Trainees are paid a training allowance or wage and given full support at college and in the workplace.

These programmes are designed for young people under the age of 25 and enable students to gain practical experience; learn while they earn and are a route to obtaining NVQ qualifications.
