Nick Westcott has been supplying top quality forage & straw bedding in the Exmoor and West Somerset area for over 20 years. Haylage Solutions offers excellent quality, sweet tasting haylage which is highly palatable for horses and ponies. Haylage is available in large square bales in three sizes (suitable for yards with two or more horses).

All grass is cut from land on Haylage Solutions own farms where there is continual management control, all year round. With all of their own machinery, Haylage Solutions can ensure that grass is cut and baled at the optimum time to ensure consistent quality.

The grass is a mixture of rye grasses, fescues, timothy and clover, which means that there is better fermentations in the bales as there are higher sugars in the traditional grasses.

Haylage Solutions offers hay, haylage and straw bedding to suit horse owners needs:

1) Early Cut Haylage
Haylage cut earlier in the season - for example, in June - contains higher protein suitable for horses in work.

2) Later Cut Haylage
Grass cut later, for example in July or August , has less energy in the grass and less protein and is suitable for horses in lighter work.

3) Hay
Hay is produced when weather conditions are at their optimum, ensuring the hay can mature in the barn without over-heating.

4) Straw Bedding
Haylage Solutions also supplies good quality big bale straw in various bale sizes. Straw is delivered directly to clients

Land Management
Haylage Solutions uses Grasstrac on all pasture in the spring, which corrects any trace element deficiences and promotes healthy soil conditions. This avoids the need for heavy, artificial fertiliser applications. Pasture is regularly limed to maintain correct Ph levels. All the land is grazed by sheep until the end of March each year, which avoids the grass becoming dead in the base before cutting. It is then grazed again after cutting.

One Cut Only
Haylage Solutions only takes one cut of grass per field each year. The grass is not forced through frequent cutting and is allowed to grow naturally and this reduces the need for heavy artificial fertiliser applications, resulting in a better quality and sweeter product for horses.

Delivery
Haylage is delivered to clients directly. Haylage Solutions offers delivery primarily in the West Somerset, North Devon and Exmoor area, but delivery can easily be organised further afield by arrangement.

Haylage Solutions offer three sizes of hay and haylage bales, which are suitable for yards of two horses or more:
