Buckley Lodge - nestled in the stunning Porlock Vale, near Bossington Beach |
Bossington is a picturesque, peaceful, really unspoilt village which is largely owned by The National Trust. Bossington nestles at the foot of Selworthy Beacon and is surrounded by the sea, idyllic Exmoor streams, beautiful woodland and the spectacular hilly open moorland - a unique and stunning setting that provides outstanding natural beauty.

| Bed & Breakfast at Buckley Lodge, Bossington |
| Directly from Buckley Lodge, you cross the river and are straight onto the miles of beautiful Exmoor coastal walks and open space - Exmoor has over 600 miles of public footpaths and bridleways that start from the front door!
At Buckley Lodge you're also in the village, with nearby tea rooms and only a short drive to Selworthy, Allerford, Horner, Minehead, Porlock and Dunster. It's the perfect setting from which to enjoy Exmoor National Park with easy access to amenities. The Porlock Vale, in which Bossington nestles, is one of the most beautiful spots in the UK and is largely unspoilt due to the fact that it is both in the National Park and large areas are owned by The National Trust and the Holnicote Estate spans the vale and up onto the moor.
The Porlock Vale is a patchwork of beautifully maintained farmsteads and hamlets, sweeping up on all sides to dramatic woodlands and moorland areas. The contrasts, contours and colours are amazing and your spirit will lift as you drive into the Porlock Vale and see the vista stretching out before you.
The Vale sweeps down the sea, where Bossington Beach is a considerable attraction with its huge pebbles, tidal wetlands and unspoilt backdrop. It's rare nowadays to find a beach framed by farmland and moorland, with no commercial attractions. An incredible peace and tranquility can be found at Bossington, listening to the waves lapping over the huge, smooth pebbles and the views across to the pretty Porlock Weir and then Wales.

| The Area |
Buckley Lodge is just one mile away from the historic village of Porlock and 6 miles from Minehead.
Porlock provides shops, boutiques, pubs, restaurants and cash point facilities. Slightly further along is the pretty harbour of Porlock Weir, which is not to be missed!
Minehead provides the amenities of a small town with supermarkets, hospital, shops and sports facilities including golf, tennis, swimming and gym. Minehead also boast the West Somerset Steam Railway, which is a great way to see the surrounding countryside and coastline.
Also nearby is the fabulous Dunster Castle, and the village of Dunster is full of quaint tea rooms, restaurants, shops and amazing medieval architecture.
A short drive up onto the moor will provide you with some of the most beautiful scenery you have ever seen in your life. Webber's Post, near Horner and Luccombe, reveals dense, wooded river valleys, leading to the large moorland areas of Ley Hill, Dunkery Beacon and Robin Howe. You can walk, cycle and ride for miles.
The scenery is dramatic and beautiful and it is within this environment that you are likely to come across herds of free-living, but privately owned, herds of the indigenous Exmoor pony. These ponies are rare and endangered, but the herds are carefully managed and much work is done for the preservation and conservation of this important prehistoric little horse. Look out for their characterful mealy muzzles, dense coats and large soulful eyes. From Spring, you will also be treated to seeing the foals!
You will also see herds of the stunning Exmoor Red Deer, foxes, Buzzards and the Peregrine Falcon. As well as walking, cycling and riding, you can also take an Exmoor Safari.
Further afield you will find Winsford, Withypool, Dulverton and Lynton & Lynmouth - all with their own, considerable appeal. This is just a flavour of what Exmoor has to offer. One thing is for sure, you will have plenty to do, see and enjoy in this spectacular part of the world!
Bring Your Horse On Holidays With You...
