Annie Collins was keen to re-start Upton Horse Show three and a half years ago and rallied local support, through the Upton Village Show Committee. The last Upton Horse Show had last taken place fifteen years ago in 1988. The committee was offered the use of the old show field at Bittescombe Manor and the support of owner David Wood and his family. A programme of In Hand, Ridden classes and dressage tests was put together for the first year. The committee set about raising funds for the show through fun rides, car boot sales, car treasure hunts, Quiz nights and sponsorship. Diana and Maurice Scott of Brendon Hill Stallions supplied essential Brendon Hills Horse Trials equipment to put on the show. On the day of the first re-launched Upton Show the weather produced a serious gale with accompanying rain - two tents were blown over the hedge - but it was fun nevertheless. Both In Hand and Ridden classes were enjoyed by all, despite the weather. For the second year, fund raising started in earnest with a successful fun ride held at Brendon Hill Farm; a car boot sale; a bead workshop and a Quiz night held at the Lowtrow Cross Inn, Upton. It was also decided to introduce show jumping classes to the show.

This year, 2007, Upton Show will include three Exmoor pony classes, including a Ridden class as well as the normal wide range of In Hand and Ridden Showing classes and Dressage tests. It is a friendly, fun show, set in beautiful countryside and easily accessible from the B3224 from Taunton or the B3190 from Bampton and Tiverton. Upton Show is a great day out for all the family - we look forward to seeing you there!
