Report on the 2010 Devon County Show
Bumper numbers enjoy Devon County Show!
Bumper numbers visited this year’s (2010) Devon County Show and enjoyed a traditional Show with large numbers of livestock, great food and drink, wonderful flowers and gardens, entertainment in six rings and the best weather in years. Highlights included Chariots of Fire, a team of ponies who leapt through fiery hoops, the grand parade of livestock in the main ring, falconry on horseback and traditional crafts and country pursuits. In the avenues visitors were entertained by Titan the robot, marching bands, Jonty Depp, Lenny the Land-train, live bands and country dancing, amongst others. All three Show days attracted more visitors than last year who enjoyed the first days’ of summer celebrating life in Devon. For the second year running, children went free on Saturday when accompanied by an adult. Show secretary Ollie Allen said: “There was a great buzz from the very start of the Show. It was wonderful to see so many people enjoying a relaxed day together.” Last year more than 91,000 people came to the Show; this year Ollie Allen said she was confident they were going to top that number but would wait until all ticket receipts had been counted before giving a final total.

The Devon County Show
Heritage, tradition and good, old fashioned fun are at the heart of the Devon County Show. The show has a friendly, family atmosphere and welcomes visitors to the simple pleasures of a really good day out where there is plenty to see and do and no expensive extras.
Horses are a huge attraction – there are classes for miniatures to heavy horses and everything else in between as well as top quality show jumping classes and inter hunt relay.
The Show prides itself on its traditional attractions – magnificent livestock, delicious food and drink, inspirational flower and garden displays, Dog Show, stalls offering a vast range of goods, and lots of great entertainment in six rings. The livestock is among the best in the region, if not the country. Look out for the care and preparation of the herdsmen using shampoo, hairdryers and brushes to get their cattle ready for the show ring. Enjoy delicious and wholesome food: Westcountry food and drink producers bring the great taste of the countryside to the table with their affordable and tempting produce.

Adult - £16 in advance, £18 on the day
Child (5-15) - £5.50 in advance, £6.50 on the day – remember, children go free on Saturday!
Senior citizens (60+) - £14.50 in advance, £15.50 on the day
Family (2 adults, 3 children) - £37 in advance, £43 on the day (valid only on Thursday & Friday but remember that children go free on Saturday)
