| The Practice |
The practice has a long established reputation in Minehead and the surrounding areas and moved to its present purpose-built premises in 1994. Veterinary treatment is provided for virtually all species of animals commonly kept and the practice has access to specialist centres should it become necessary.
|
| Equine Facilities at White Lodge |
White Lodge provides veterinary care for a large number of private horse owners, studs, hunts, and race horses in training. The majority of cases are seen on visits to owners’ premises, but the practice does offer in-house facilities to admit horses for many procedures such as X-Rays, ultrasound examinations, endoscopy, video arthroscopy, and surgeries under general anaesthesia with full monitoring equipment. Hospitalisation facilities are available for more protracted cases. An in-house laboratory offers prompt blood-testing facilities.
There are three loose boxes for performing examinations and a fully padded equine operating theatre, equipped with monitoring of blood pressure, blood oxygen and heart rate during general anaesthesia and an hydraulic operating table.
|
| Stud Work |
Ultrasound examination is used routinely for early pregnancy diagnosis and treatment of the sub-fertile mare. Artificial insemination is also practiced.
|
| Pre-Purchase Vetting Examinations (Vettings) |
White Lodge is always pleased to examine horses prior to purchase, both locally and (with enough notice) at a distance. |
| Equine Dentistry |
Although our Veterinary Surgeons work happily with a number of Equine Dental Technicians locally, we perform a large number of routine dental treatments ourselves, as well as the more complicated tooth removals, sinus surgeries and so on. |
| Passports and Identification |
Microchipping is now a mandatory requirement for thoroughbred foals registered by Wetherbys, and is an option for any horse. |
| Vaccinations and Worming |
Advice is given on the appropriate regime for each horse. We would regard tetanus vaccination as essential for every horse. |
| Other Practice Facilities |
The practice has three consulting rooms, equipped for routine examinations, modern hygienic kennelling for all sizes of cats and dogs and two small animal operating theatres, equipped with anaesthetic machines, ECG, blood pressure monitoring and pulse oximeter for monitoring of surgical patients. There is also digital X-Ray, ultrasound scanning, flexible and rigid endoscopy equipment. Some 'keyhole' surgery is performed.
Hospitalisation - When necessary, cats, dogs and other small mammals can be hospitalised for surgical and intensive medical treatment by the team of veterinary nurses. The practice is also a training centre for veterinary nurses.

| Insurance Cover |
| Pet insurance is becoming increasingly important in our modern society, both for third party and also for peace of mind in knowing that you will never have to compromise on veterinary treatment for your pet. We strongly advise all pet owners to insure their pets against expenses incurred through illness or accident. |
