An All-Round Service at The Leather Workshop
The Leather Workshop is owned and run by Linda Stares and Elizabeth Steadman who are both qualified saddlers. The speciality of the workshop is the manufacture of best quality bridlework and leathergoods. A friendly, efficient repair service is available for saddles, bridles and leather goods, which are carried out on site.
The Leather Workshop
The Leather Workshop is located just around the corner from White Lodge Veterinary Clinic, next to the farm shop in Hawksworth Road. The new premises is much larger so you'll find even more of your favourite equine things and Linda and Liz look forward to seeing you in the new shop.


We are able to do repairs to saddles, ranging from new girth straps to a replacement tree
and we also offer a prompt reflocking service.
The Tack Shop
The tack shop is a veritable Aladdin's cave - packed with a wide selection of horse and rider clothing, accessories and gifts, including indoor and outdoor rugs, headcollars, bits, greetings cards and second-hand goods.

Stockists of Horseware, Griffin NuuMed, Weatherbeeta, Tally Ho, Champion, Shires, Toggi, Breyer and Equitech and more. If you can not find what you are looking for then please ask!
Rug Cleaning Service
We offer a full rug cleaning and reproofing service for all types of rugs. Prices for cleaning start at £7.05 inc VAT for a cooler rug and £19.70 inc VAT for cleaning and reproofing a turnout rug with an attached hood. Rugs are repaired in our workshop after cleaning. Please call us for further details.

Bridles

The Leather Workshop makes many different sizes of bridles, from Shetland to Shire and a wide range of styles to suit all equestrian needs. Customers can complete a fitting form which enable 'made-to-measure' bridles to be made without visiting the workshop.

All bridlework is made from the finest quality English leather and is available in four colours (Black, Dark Havana, Australian Nut or Chestnut), with either stainless steel or solid brass buckles.

Reins, breastplates, martingales and accessories can be made to match the bridles.

Made to Measure Bridles

The Leather Workshop can make a bridle and accessories to suit your exact requirements, including the following types and suggested combinations.

Bridles:
Plain Cavesson Bridle with Plain Leather Reins and Adjustable Hunting Breasplate; Raised Cavesson Bridle with Rubber Grip Reins; Raised Flash Bridle with Half Rubbered Reins; Raised Flash Bridle with Clincher Browband, Brass Buckles and Buckle Billet Cheeks; Raised Flash Bridle with Clincher Browband, Brass Buckles and Clip Cheeks and Elastic Event Breastplate; Bridle with Mexican Grakle, Clincher Browband, Clip Cheeks and Brass Buckles; Padded Cavesson Bridle; Padded Flash Bridle; Weymouth and Pelham Bridles.

Other Accessories Include:
Bradoon Sliphead; Second Rein; Pelham Reins; Lip Strap; Martingales, Breastplates and Breastplate attachments; Headcollars; Stirrup Leathers, Girths and Training Aids.

The Leather Workshop also offers a full range of In Hand Equipment including bridles, slips, lead reins and attachments.

Mail Order Service for Made to Measure Bridles

Whilst The Leather Workshop welcomes visitors, it also provides a useful mail order service for customers who live too far away.

How to Order from The Leather Workshop
Below, you will find two Questionnaires. One is for the Horses Head Measurements and the other is for an Existing Bridle (that fits well preferably).

1) Simply fill out whichever Questionnaire suits you best;
2) Decide which style and colour of bridle you would like and;
3) Send the details to us at The Leather Workshop, with your full contact details and delivery information.

When we receive the order, we will check the measurements and details and if we have any queries we will contact you.

Payment can be made by cheque, credit card or debit card. NB. Bridle prices do not include reins or bits. Prices are inclusive of VAT. Postage and packing is not included in the prices. Please enquire as to costs and methods of sending ie. Recorded or Insured Delivery etc.

Once you have received your bridle, try it on your horse and if it needs any adjustment, we can do that for you.

FITTING INFORMATION FOR HORSES HEAD MEASUREMENTS

Headpiece
Measure from corner of mouth over the head to corner of mouth A-B

Cheekpiece
Measure from corner of mouth to level of eye A-C.

Browband
Measure from D to E. (Loose enough to get two fingers under tape measure).

Noseband
Measure the circumference of the nose approximately two fingers below the bottom of the cheekbones. (Loose enough to get 2 fingers under the tape measure).

Throatlash
Measure from D under the throat to E on the other side. (Loose enough to get four fingers under the tape measure).

A well fitting bridle should do up on the centre holes. If you want the bridle for a young horse and wish to allow for growth, please let us know.

We will also make an allowance for the bit rings, usually 2" either side. If you use a Dutch or 4-ring gag, please let us know.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION REQUIRED:
1) Once we have the basic measurements we can decide what width of bridle you want, whether raised or padded, which colour and any other requirements you may have.
2) We also offer clincher browbands in nickel or brass, and bridles can be made with brass or stainless steel buckles.
3) A wide range of nosebands is available and the reins of your choice can be make to match your bridle.
4) We are always happy to discuss your requirements so that you get exactly what you want.
