East Lynch Stud - Breeding Racing and Performance horses |
| East Lynch has been the home of thoroughbred stallions for over 50 years. Situated on the edge of Exmoor, south facing and with superb views towards Robin How and Dunkery Beacon, the farm affords 110 acres of permanent pasture for mares and followers.
During the past 50 years, East Lynch has been home to successful stallions such as Summer Knight, Rondo II, Kadir Cup, Foxstar, Langton Heath, Pardigras, Latest Model, Deltic, Little Wolf, Shambo and Thowra. Over this time, the progeny of these horses has performed successfully in all equestrian spheres.
East Lynch stallions have bred Grand National horses, Badminton horses, Grade A Show Jumpers, Grand Prix Dressage horses and Show champions, both ridden and in hand - in fact, you name it and they've done it!
East Lynch Stud History: The first stallion to stand at East Lynch was 'Summer Knight' owned by Leslie Scott in 1952. L G Scott 'Les' came to East Lynch in 1942 from Tiverton where he farmed 220 acres and kept hunter liveries. A keen horseman, Les rode in the show ring and was an intrepid rider 'between the flags'. He was a leading amateur point to point rider in the West Country before the war. In 1939, he trained and rode three horses - Silver Shoes, Sonny Jim and Allen to win sixteen races.
The thoroughbred stallions at East Lynch were intended to breed hunters, point to pointers and show horses. In 1966, Leslie Scott retired and his son, Derrick, took over the farm and stud. Derrick was an accomplished horseman, having ridden successfully in the show ring and graduated to National Hunt racing and point to pointing.
The family tradition continues with Derrick and his wife Rosie still managing the farm and stud, helped by their son James, who also rode several point to point winners. Derrick continues his interest in point to point racing, officiating as a steward at several race meetings during the season.

Facilities at East Lynch Stud |
| The 'top yard' is where the weaned foals and yearlings overwinter. Below the farmhouse, there are twelve more boxes including five foaling boxes and one open and one covered yard - ideal for housing early foals in inclement weather - with easy access to grazing.
Barren and maiden mares come in by night until at least the beginning of May. In foal mares and mares with foals at foot are in at night throughout unless excessively hot weather makes it kinder to reverse the process.
