'Exmoor's Exclusive Coaching Inn and Sporting Hotel'

The warmest of welcomes awaits everyone who steps over the threshold of this famous 17th century coaching inn and sporting hotel. Situated amongst 3 acres of gardens in the middle of Exford, one of Exmoor's prettiest villages, surrounded by stunning countryside and moorland where Exmoor ponies, red deer and birds of prey roam free. It is the ideal place to return after a day's touring, walking, riding, cycling, shooting or fishing, either in the warmth of summer or on a crisp and frosty winters day.

'My favourite small hotel on Exmoor, oozing with atmosphere, scrumptious food and always treated as one of the family.'
Christopher Ondaatje C.B.E, O.C - Author and Explorer

Guests may wander around the hotel's beautiful water garden with its fast-flowing trout stream. The lawns, shaded by the tall trees above, make an idyllic spot in summer for small parties, or simply relaxing whilst sipping a pre-prandial cocktail. For the more energetic, there is the opportunity of exploring the picturesque woodland walk we have just created.

Whilst in Exmoor, guests should take the chance to visit some of the wonderful sights. These include the Medieval town of Dunster with its famous castle, the quaint towns of Dulverton and Porlock, the prehistoric landmark of Tarr Steps and Dunkery Beacon for its tremendous views of Exmoor, the Quantocks, Severn Estuary and Wales. A short drive away, are some of the great gardens of Somerset and North Devon, such as Hestercombe (near Taunton) and Knightshayes. If you enjoy nature, why not join a local wildlife safari tour and see if you can spot red deer and wild Exmoor ponies. Guests who enjoy fishing will be very interested to know that the hotel owns a stretch of salmon river.

Dogs are Welcome!
Dogs
Dogs are allowed to stay in 8 of the hotel bedrooms - 2 singles, 3 twins and 3 doubles - and all public areas, except the restaurant and lounge from 7pm at night. The maximum number of dogs is 3 per bedroom and they should be well behaved and cannot sleep on the hotel beds. All food and equipment, including dog bedding is to be provided by the owners.
