Dartmoor is considered to be the remotest and wildest countryside in Southern England with its numerous Tors, wild ponies, archaeological sites and its sense of isolation. Dartmoor is a land of beauty, mystery and ancient history.
Situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty, the historic village of Lydford is famous for its spectacular Gorge and Waterfall, its ancient castle and interesting church. It is ideally situated for discovering the North and South Devon coasts and exploring Dartmoor, which is five minutes walk away at the top of the lane - and provides a paradise for horse riders, walkers and cyclists.
Lydford House is set in 8 acres of delightful, secluded gardens and pastureland in the pretty village of Lydford, nestling on the western edge of Dartmoor. A family run Country House Hotel with a relaxed atmosphere, Lydford House offers holidays for you and your horse (at no extra cost!) - with superb riding on Dartmoor and in the nearby Lydford Forest. Well-behaved dogs are welcome by prior arrangement at a small extra cost. “La Cascata” our Italian restaurant offers genuine Italian cuisine created by Valerio, our Turin chef.

At Lydford House, there are eight spacious, well-equipped en-suite bedrooms - singles, doubles, twins and family rooms.
All rooms are non smoking and have tea and coffee making facilities, hairdryers, TV's etc. A ground floor room is available and one room as a four-poster bed. Rooms are available from 4pm on the day of arrival.
Food and Drink
Guests can enjoy a full English breakfast, using local produce - or Continental breakfast, if preferred. Packed lunches are available on request. Drinks are served on the terrace or around the log fire in the guest lounge, with an excellent choice of Italian wines available in our restaurant. There is also a local pub and restaurant further restaurant within walking distance. Please let us know about any special dietary requirements in advance.
La Cascata Ristorante Italiano
You will be delightfully surprised with the wonderful dishes created by our Italian chef using only the best quality and where possible, locally produces ingredients. The greatest care is taken to present a mouth watering choice from traditional dishes right through to classics with a modern twist.
Coach House Apartment
A ground floor 2 bedded apartment adjacent to the stables sleeping upto 6 and having 2 bathrooms and a large open plan living area which includes a well equipped kitchen and dinning area.
Widgery's Nest Apartment
A delightful self-catering second floor apartment nestling under the eaves of Lydford House. The accommodation is cosy and comfortable, with some lovely views. There is a double en-suite bedroom and a further en-suite twin if required. An open plan living area with fitted kitchen and dinning area.

Lydford House Stables |
Lydford House Stables offers a holiday for you and your horse with superb riding on Dartmoor.
Situated in the grounds, the Stables include twelve boxes at least 3m x 3m, a sand school, tack room, stalls and paddocks for your use. There is ample parking for lorries. Your horse comes at no extra cost, apart from any hay or feed you may require.
The moors are accessed from the top of the lane, providing hours of fantastic outriding and Lydford Forest is close by offering a variety of scenery. The village has almost more horses than people, providing an equine-friendly environment. Lydford House can supply maps and packed lunches on request. Guides are also available - by prior arrangement, to ensure that you and your horse make the most of this wonderful landscape.
Horse Hire
If you do not have a horse to bring, then Lydford House can arrange for you to make use of the local riding stables for daily riding, treks and instruction. For those who are requiring extra horses or unable to bring their own, we are able to arrange, for experience riders, horses which are hired by the hour. Please contact us for prices.

Cycle Hire: If you'd like to explore on a bike, then hire one of Lydford's cycles and make use of the private access onto the splendid Granite Way off road Cycle Path, part of the Devon coast to coast rout 27 trail. Full facilities are available for those who wish to bring their own bikes.
Walking : There are many walks which range from just a couple of hours to all day. Dartmoor is the largest area of wild country in Southern England. It is made for adventure, with plenty of scope for long hikes across wonderful countryside, full of archaeological remains. One of the best ways to explore is on foot. The area around Lydford introduces the walker to a wide range of scenery, ranging from gentle strolls through the village and surrounding woodland, to the fascinating walks through Lydford Gorge (National Trust). The river Lyd crashes through a series of waterfalls and whirlpools, the highest fall is White Lady - 98 feet. If you are seeking a greater challenge, just five minutes from house, at the top of the lane - the rugged landscapes of the open moor await you. Miles upon miles of granite tors, wooded river valleys, bogs and wide open spaces.
Fishing: Brown trout and salmon await on many of the reservoirs, lakes and nearby rivers, day tokens are available from the Hotel.
Golf: Within half an hour's drive, there are six golf courses to suit all levels and abilities.

How to Find Lydford House
From Exeter, take junction 31 onto the A30. Leave this road at the exit after Okehampton, onto the A368, turning left towards Tavistock. The turning for Lydford is approximately 6 miles on the right, opposite the Dartmoor Inn. Lydford House is 250 yards on the right, just before you pass over the bridge into the village. |
